Travel With Care Event Makes Impact at Three Island Crossing State Park
Third-annual event leads by example putting principles into action

BOISE, Idaho (May 31, 2024)—Travel and tourism in Idaho is evolving as new visitors discover the diverse spaces of the state and residents and return visitors expand their itineraries to more remote destinations. To preserve the beauty of these outdoor spaces and recreation opportunities, Visit Idaho continues to champion the Travel With Care initiative to help visitors and residents better understand how to care for Idaho and each other. On May 29, Visit Idaho hosted its third consecutive Travel With Care event, putting the initiative’s principles into action.

Volunteers from regional partners, including Elmore County Economic Development and local residents joined Visit Idaho team members at Three Island Crossing State Park to remove noxious weeds, dig wells around newly planted trees, and rake pine needles throughout the park. These tasks help to not only maintain the park’s features but to provide spaces for guests to enjoy well into the future. Visit Idaho and participating partners experienced the flexibility and adaptability required of the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation rangers.

One of the originally planned activities included staining the cabins located in the day-use section of the park, but 40-50 mph wind gusts redirected focus. The experience showcased how park rangers must adapt and pivot to maintain these outdoor spaces, similar to how visitors must adapt to weather changes to maintain safety and not erode the environment.

“Idaho’s state parks are an immensely valuable asset to our tourism product. They represent some of the best outdoor recreation in the state, and the parks’ staff are true ambassadors for Idaho,” said Jeremy Chase, Marketing & Innovation Administrator at Idaho Department of Commerce. “We’re humbled to support Three Island Crossing State Park to showcase its beauty and help others enjoy its many amenities.”

“We’re honored to have Visit Idaho out at Three Island Crossing State Park today for Travel With Care,” Said John Redd, Three Island Crossing State Park Ranger. “We aren’t always as popular as other state parks and it’s great to have the added attention to help showcase all we have to offer at Three Island Crossing. It’s encouraging to not only have the volunteer support to keep this park beautiful but to help show it off for more people to discover.”

Travel With Care is a program focused on promoting the respectful use and care of the great Idaho outdoors among residents and travelers throughout the state. The ongoing initiative provides guidelines and friendly tips everyone can use to preserve the beauty and kindness that Idaho is known for. Visit Idaho encourages the public to Travel With Care whenever recreating outdoors by following simple recommendations such as:

  • Prepare for your trip by researching trail use, weather conditions and more before embarking on your trip.
  • Make sure fires are completely drowned out before leaving them unattended.
  • Respect wildlife by keeping a safe distance.
