What to Do

Destination

Wallace

Head to Wallace to stand at the Center of the Universe. You can find the unusual marker at the intersection of Bank and Sixth Streets in the historic downtown area. How did this Idaho town earn such a prestigious monument? It turns out, that if a thing cannot be disproven, it is thereby proven – or so the saying goes.

Go underground with a tour of the Sierra Silver Mine. Climb aboard a classic trolley for a guided tour of Wallace before arriving at the mine. The tour showcases the rise of the Silver Valley and what life was like for a miner in the 1900s.

Known as the “crown jewel” of rail-to-trail systems in the U.S., the Route of the Hiawatha is a must-do, bucket-list -worthy activity. This stunning scenic bike trail is 15 miles of downhill fun, featuring spectacular views, sky-high train trestles, tunnels, waterfalls, and wildlife. Bring your own bike and go straight to the trail entrance to purchase your trail pass (cash only at this location); or start your journey at Lookout Pass Ski & Recreation Area where you can rent bikes, helmets, bike lights and a bike rack for your vehicle and purchase a trail pass. Don’t worry about pedaling back up the trail to return to your vehicle; simply reserve a spot on the shuttle back to the parking area.
