Wallace Area

Wallace has long been famous as the “Silver Capital of the World” with 1.2 billion ounces of silver produced in Shoshone county since 1884. Silver mining is still a big part of the economy, but today it is carried out in total harmony with a pristine mountain environment that attracts outdoor recreation enthusiasts from around the world.  Wallace is known for the fact that every downtown building is on the National Register of Historic Places and also has the notable distinction of being officially declared the Center of the Universe. The mayor of Wallace officially proclaimed it so in 2004 after finding that the EPA followed logic along the lines of “If something can’t be disproved, it must be true”… There is plenty to explore in this fun little town and recreation aplenty in the surrounding mountains.
