Located near Celebration Park, Idaho’s only archaeological park, Map Rock showcases another side of Idaho’s fascinating history. The large basalt rock boasts a petroglyph map believed to show the Snake and Salmon rivers as well as the animals that existed during the time it was created. Historians believe it was carved by the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe.

Things To Know

  • Directions: From Nampa, travel south on Highway 45. Turn right on Map Rock Road. Travel 7.3 miles to Map Rock, located on the right side of the road.
  • The site has a boat ramp, parking areas, outhouses, solar-powered lighting and walk-in access to the Snake River. Camping is not permitted.
  • Open year-round, from dawn to dusk.
