Idaho City

Much like Stanley, Idaho City is tucked away deep in the Gem State wilderness surrounded by rivers and staggering mountains. What was once the largest town in the Northwest, is now a hub for some of the best fishing in the Gem State.

Snowhaven Ski and Tubing Area

The Snowhaven Ski and Tubing area is an awesome stop for affordable family fun during winter months. Just hop on your tube, skis or board and let gravity do most of the work. Snowhaven’s hill features 1,100-foot runs with 150-foot vertical drops and a 600-foot lift so you can kick back and catch your breath on the way back up. 

The Activity Barn

The Activity Barn snow tubing hill is located just south of McCall and features six, 800-foot lanes with an 85 foot vertical drop. Each lane is sculpted into a mini-half pipe for maximum fun with runs designed to fit everyone’s comfort level.

Hermit’s Hollow Tubing Center – Schweitzer

Hermit's Hollow is located at Schweitzer, known far and wide for its massive snow accumulation. This tubing hill features a lift, two 300-foot tubing lanes, and the option to turn up the adventure with night tubing.

Lake Cascade (Cascade Reservoir)

Lake Cascade offers many beachfront campgrounds around the entire lake, which is a staggering amount because it’s among the largest bodies of water in Idaho. The lake has great fishing and is an ideal location for boaters, water skiing, sailing and other water sports.

South Fork of the Boise River

Located between Anderson Ranch Dam and Danskin Bridge, the South Fork of the Boise River boasts a stable population of rainbow trout, whitefish and bull trout. Hike through the lush forests and you’ll have a good chance of spotting an eagle.

Jump Creek

Enjoy a magnificent 60-foot waterfall at Jump Creek. The fall flows from Sands Basin and the surrounding canyon boasts vibrant rock walls that rise hundreds of feet above the canyon floor. This hike is a day -use only site, making it the perfect “warm-up” trip for summer adventures.

Bruneau River Canyon

The Bruneau River Canyon boasts scenic views of the Bruneau River. Discover a maze of spectacular canyons, "hoo-doo" rock spires, junipers and red volcanic cliffs in this 50-mile long stretch. The river begins at the confluence of the Jarbidge River and the West Fork Bruneau River, and in the dense wilderness, plateaus are divided by staggering, meandering river canyons.

Swan Falls Dam and Park

Swan Falls offers many places to explore along the south side of the Snake River. No matter which designated campsite you choose to post up at, you’re sure to get outstanding canyon views. Be sure to bring your fishing rod (and fishing license) on this particular hike, smallmouth bass can be found in the calmer waters along the banks of the river.

Blue Lake

Blue Lake, one of Idaho’s better kept secrets, rests just outside of Cascade tucked back in the Boise National Forest near the summit of Snowbank Mountain and Granite Peak. It’s a short hike that’s easily accessible during the spring and summer months and is only 80 miles from Boise - a short two-hour drive.

Teton Valley

Located in eastern Idaho, Teton Valley is an explorer’s paradise. Experience world-class trout fishing, trek through hundreds of miles of hiking trails and cruise through remote mountain biking trails around camp.

Island Park Reservoir

Island Park Reservoir is a gorgeous scenic reservoir along the Henry's Fork in eastern Idaho. To put it simply, Island Park is an angler's dream, with some of the best access in the country. You can cast during a float with a guide, stream fish, or troll with your float tube or boat.

Anderson Ranch Reservoir

Anderson Ranch Reservoir is situated north of Mountain Home and is well known for fishing, water skiing, hiking, and boating. The reservoir features ten campgrounds, a trailhead, and four large boat launches.

Horsethief Reservoir

Horsethief Reservoir is a fun place to spend a hot summer weekend. Idaho Department of Fish and Game keeps the reservoir well-stocked with beautiful trout, so fishing is always excellent. There are endless back roads and trails in the surrounding area to explore and the reservoir has a developed campground.

Brownlee Reservoir

Brownlee Reservoir stretches more than 50 miles along the western edge of Idaho. Idaho Power owns and operates Woodhead Park within Brownlee, which features 124 RV sites with water, 15 designated campsites, electricity, fire pits, and picnic tables.

Elephant’s Perch (Saddleback Lakes Trails)

Elephant’s Perch (formerly called Saddleback Peak) towers above the trees in the Sawtooth Wilderness offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Many folks who venture to this area choose to rest up in the conveniently located Stanley, Idaho.

C.J. Strike Reservoir

C.J. Strike Reservoir is one of the most accessible, family-friendly fishing and camping locations in the state. C. J. Strike is an outstanding fishery for both warm water and cold water species including crappie, bass, catfish, perch, rainbow trout and sturgeon.

Swan Falls Dam & Reservoir

Swan Falls Dam offers outstanding fishing for a wide variety of species. Just below the dam, anglers can catch catfish and smallmouth bass. Most fishermen can snag channel catfish using crank baits, live worms, crayfish imitations, and cut bait.

Alice Lake Trail

Discover Alice Lake tucked away deep in the Sawtooth National Forest. This hike is the first, or last stop, depending on which direction you’re coming from, along the famous Tin Cup Hiker’s Loop. The Tin Cup Hiker’s Loop connects Alice and Toxaway Lakes with various other lakes by crossing over Snowyside Pass.

Sawtooth Lake (via Iron Creek Trailhead)

If you’re looking for a “must-do” summer hike, look no further than Sawtooth Lake. This adventure is ideal for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts who want to explore the Sawtooth National Forest and get a feel for what the area has to offer.

Redfish Lake to Alpine Lake (Alpine Trail)

Redfish Lake to Alpine Lake is one of the more popular trails visitors choose to take when visiting Stanley. You’ll want to follow the Redfish Lake Inlet Trail to a fork named Flat Rock Junction. Once you reach this fork, you’ll begin to ascend to Alpine Lake - just be sure to follow the signs pointing you to the right.
